About

My name is Luba Kholov. I am an artist, writer, poet and yoga teacher living in New York City. I grew up in a Russian village. Fir-trees, rivers, dandelion and daisy fields strongly resonate with my childhood.

I lost my father in a car accident when I was 15 and moved to New York when I was 22. Ocean became my father. I go to speak to him every time I feel overwhelmed or indecisive. I also share my wins and joy with him. The first time I showed my son to the ocean, I was in tears. I know he liked the boy.

When I was 24, I met a woman from Uzbekistan who taught me yoga. Yoga lightened my path to art. Therapy cured wounds of criticism from the past. Homeopathy helped me not to hide from the world. I want my art to be a swim in the ocean, a walk in the forest, a night gaze at the stars – a pause in the middle of a chaotic day that can be overdosed with all sorts of tension.

I love walking the streets of Brooklyn, where I live with my husband and our son. Tulips, magnolias, sakura in spring, luxurious roses in summer, red/yellow/purple leaves in fall, strong clothes–free trees in winter are my companions. Nature helps me calm down the swirl of emotions I sometimes feel in the midst of a big city. She fills up my inner treasure box with diamond moments and abundantly provides me with ideas for my paintings and poetry. I hope my art can be an oasis of restoration and joy for you too.
